Being on a tour with Cristina is a once in a lifetime experience and she is one of the main reasons why Aracanto Tours are unique to any other tour you might find. She started taking tours around the world when she was 17 years old, she is a travel expert and consultant, and she now wants to welcome people to Colombia to make them fall in love with the magic and people of her home country!
Arrival Day (Bogota)
Welcome to Colombia! For your Arrival Day we will organise private airport transfer for everyone in the group. A local host will be waiting for you at the airport and will take you to the Hotel with private transportation. On your drive from the airport, you will get an introduction to Bogota and a short tour of the city. You will then meet and greet at the Hotel with the Tour Leader and will receive the complete itinerary for the next week of traveling, all necessary documentation and a welcome gift! Dinner today is open and we will provide recommendations based on arrival time.
2nd Day (Bogota)
Today we will do a Day tour of Bogota, and learn the most important moments of Colombian history. We will explore the colourful cities of La Candelaria neighbourhood, visit the well-known Museo del Oro (Gold Museum), and stop for one of our first cups of fresh Colombian coffee. We will enjoy lunch at a Colombian restaurant and taste delicious local flavours. We will then join one of the best coffee experts in the city and will engage in a private Bogota Speciality Coffee tour, visiting premium coffee shops and understanding the true essence of coffee in Colombia, whilst getting an informative coffee workshop. For dinner, we will head to the crazy Colombian restaurant Andres Carne de Res.
3rd Day (Bogota)
Wake up to a Colombian breakfast and experience the “Sunday Ciclovia” when many of the main streets in Bogota are closed and only open to cyclists, and people walking and running. Enjoy breakfast, and head to the Sunday open market of Usaquen, where you will get to shop for local art and crafts and taste local flavours. You are then invited by a Colombian family to an exclusive Colombian lunch at their home, where they will tell you the role of coffee in Colombian culture and they will introduce you to alternative drinks that Colombians drink daily including Aguapanela (sugar cane drink), and local hot chocolate. You will then have a free evening so you can rest before embarking on our journey to the coffee region, or we can recommend places for dinner.
4th Day (Coffee Region)
Today we will be traveling to the fascinating coffee region of Colombia, where you will get to see, touch and smell Colombian coffee from seed to cup. Upon arrival at Pereira, we will have lunch at a local restaurant where you will get to meet one of the most creative chefs in the region. We then continue to our first coffee farm tour, where the doors of a renowned coffee farm will open for our group. We will engage in a private specialised tour of their facilities, their farm and coffee crops and understand the entire process that a coffee bean goes through. We will then check in at the hotel, and end the day with our Welcome to the coffee region special dinner.
5th Day (Coffee Region)
We start the day by visiting one of the most well-known coffee farms known for its sweet coffee with unparalleled flavour. Their coffee cherries go through an intensive selection process, where many are discarded, and only the best ones are selected. We will learn about this and much more at a unique molecular coffee tasting where will be tasting the coffee flavours through the transformation of textures, truly understanding the attributes of coffee. We will then continue our journey to join a private tour in an off the beaten path coffee town, where we will get to know the coffee culture of Colombia from the inside, and interact with people involved. We will look for inspiration in the farmers, families, and people that weave the landscape with their hands and produce the best coffee in the world. We will end the day with a relaxed, local dinner.
6th Day (Coffee Region)
Enjoy breakfast, and head to the coffee town of Salento. At Salento, we will take the traditional Jeep Willys, still used by Colombian coffee farmers to this day, and we will drive to the Cocora Valley, where you will see the tallest palm trees in the world. We will have lunch at a local restaurant and will then have free time to explore Salento. We will close the afternoon with a coffee tasting and a workshop on latte art in one of the most renowned coffee shops in Colombia, where you can buy premium coffee to take back home. In the evening, we will visit Filandia and enjoy dinner at a restaurant with incredibly creative and tasty recipes and drinks.
7th Day (Coffee Region)
Enjoy breakfast and an exotic fruit tasting, and head to an experiential coffee tour in a family farm that produces sustainable coffee. Here you will experience the unique characteristics of climate, altitude, flora, fauna and birds that allow this farm’s plantations to grow the sweetest coffee beans in the region. You will also witness and engage in the peeling, washing, drying and roasting stages needed for coffee to reach consumers. Different to other countries, in Colombia each coffee cherry must be picked individually by hand, and you will learn why the Colombian coffee federation maintains this national premium standard. After enjoying another delicious, high-quality coffee cup. In the evening, we will have our Goodbye dinner, with Colombian music and drinks.
8th Day (Bogota)
Today our Specialised Coffee Tour will come to an end. We fly in the morning from Pereira to Bogota, and the trip will end at the Bogota airport. We hope you enjoyed this eye-opening experience to the world of coffee at its origin, and we hope you remain in touch with us.
We recommend booking your international flights on Friday evening, or on Saturday, as the flight from Pereira might be delayed. If your flight leaves on Saturday morning, we recommend staying in an airport close to the Bogota El Dorado airport to avoid traffic the next day. We can provide you recommendations of Hotels.
